To meet the continual need for increased router features and performance, Cisco Systems® introduces its newest packet-over-SONET (POS) port adapter, the Cisco® 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter. The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter is ideal for service providers or large enterprises that need to deploy multiple ports of OC-3/STM-1 connectivity or a single OC-3/STM-1 port with redundancy and failover support.

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter (Figure 1) combines superior performance and an innovative design to provide the following benefits:

• Dual-port, line-rate performance

• Automatic protection switching (APS) failover between ports

• Modular, pluggable optics (Three types are available: multimode fiber, short range [MM]; single-mode fiber, intermediate range [SMIR]; and single-mode fiber, long range [SMLR])

The 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter supports two ports of any of the following SFP optics: multimode (MM), single-mode fiber intermediate range (IR), and single-mode fiber long range (LR). Two different module types may be mixed in the same port adapter. The Product Ordering section of this document provides product part numbers for the SFPs used with the 2-Port OC-3/STM-1 POS Port Adapter.
